Timothy P. Longman
B.A. Phillips University; M.A., Ph.D., University of Wisconsin, Madison Timothy Longman teaches courses on politics in Africa and the African diaspora, as well as courses on multicultural politics and human rights. His research interests focus on ethnic conflict, transitional justice, and religion and politics. He has conducted field research in Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and South Africa. Mr. Longman has published numerous articles and chapters on the conflicts in Central Africa, and his book, Commanded by the Devil: Christianity and Genocide in Rwanda, is forthcoming from Cambridge University Press. He is currently working on a book on memory and justice in post-genocide Rwanda. From 2001-2006, he served as a research fellow for the Human Rights Center of the University of California, Berkeley. He has also taught at Columbia University, the National University of Rwanda, and the University of Witswatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. In addition to his teaching and research, Mr. Longman has worked as a consultant for Human Rights Watch, USAID and the State Department, and the International Center for Transitional Justice researching and writing reports on human rights, democratization, and justice in Rwanda, Congo, and Burundi. |
